Hello Everyone! I have made it successfully to the UAACC in Tanzania. It is a beautiful community center and all of the people have been very kind here. My journey here was very, very long and tiring but it gave me time to reflect on what I the magnitude of what I am doing. Flying into Rome and then over the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert was truly inspirational and has sparked my interest to come back and explore more of Europe and Africa when I can. I also had some anxiety traveling so far from home and being away for so long but but all that has gone away now that I am here and settled.
I am very excited about my time here. I will be helping teach English and computer classes as well as teaching some introductory geology courses and leading some softball and soccer activities with the children here. I will be posting more once I have gotten settled in and learn more about all of the things this center is doing to help the community. I also met the leader and two of the workers from the community center I will be volunteering at in Zanzibar and they have already made me feel very welcome and that they are serious about helping their community so I hope I will be able to make a good contribution!
Here at the UAACC I have access to stable internet but I can’t upload pictures currently so sorry for the lack of photos. I will do my best to go into town from time to time and upload pictures, but understand that the town in about a half hour away from here by taxi so I can’t do it all the time. As I get more rested I will post more so I can help paint a better picture of my life here since I can add photos. I love you all and hope everyone is well!
